This Chinese fried rice recipe is one my family has enjoyed time and time again. Although it tastes just like the real stuff, you know exactly what’s in it.
To make this dish healthy, I use brown rice instead of its refined counterpart white rice. Most Chinese rice contains a scrambled egg that gives it a greater taste and texture. But since this is a vegan recipe, I omitted that ingredient.
Therefore, this recipe contains whole grain, vegetables, and some seasonings. Sounds great to me!

Things to keep in mind about this recipe:
- You can replace the coconut oil with vegan butter. It would probably work better since the coconut oil evaporates so quickly.
- You need to use chilled brown rice, which means cooking it ahead of time and storing it in the fridge. I usually cook mine the previous day so it’s ready for me. However, you can cook it and put it in the freezer for around 20 minutes. Just be sure it doesn’t freeze!
3 cups cooked brown rice (usually around one cup uncooked)
1 medium carrot
1/2 cup frozen peas
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 medium onion
2 garlic cloves
2 green onions
Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Total time: 25 mins
- First, chop your carrots, onions, and mince your garlic. Add them to a pan and saute them in the coconut oil until cooked and soft. (Omit green onions.)
- Next, move over your veggies to make room for the rice. Add more coconut oil and put rice and soy sauce in the pan. Stir everything really well.
- Then, continue stirring the rice every 15 seconds. Once the rice and veggies begin to brown, then turn off the stove and remove the pan from heat.
- Finally, add your green onions and stir. Taste and see if you want to add a little salt and pepper.
Yup! It’s that easy. Now you can save money and eat healthier by using this Chinese fried rice recipe at home. All your friends and family members will be amazed at how great of a cook you are!
