80% of Millionaires are first generation.
You read that correctly! The majority of millionaires that exist weren’t always millionaires. They learned how to earn, invest, and grow their money into more. So why am telling you this? Because if they can do it, so can you!
Q: What sets these people apart from everyone else?
A: There are many different reasons why someone may be successful. What makes one rich may not be the thing that makes another rich. But there are habits of successful people that cannot be ignored and I believe make all the difference in the way they live their lives.
By adding these habits of successful people into your routine, you can produce extraordinary results. Therefore, if you’re tired of setting for average, kick it up a notch! Making these changed can unleash a part of you that propels you into success!
Habits Of Successful People
Let’s be honest: When’s the last time you’ve read a book? While the average American reads around 4 books per year, most CEO’s read a book a week (that’s 52 books a year!) Although reading is important, what’s more important is what are you reading? A book on psychology will affect your brain differently than a fictional story on crime. One will bring entertainment, but the other will enlighten you and equip your brain with more resources.
Jim Rohn compares the brain to a mental factory which produces all things in our lives. What kind of supplies are you providing your mental factory with? Is it the news with rapings, killings, stabbings, murders, and every horrible thing under the sun? Or are you listening to seminars that provide wisdom?
Wealthy people read things that will increase their wealth. For example, books on personal finance, investing, body language, influence, business, autobiographies, and mental health may all be topics on the list for the rich to read.
Make Learning A Priority
[click_to_tweet tweet=”‘Work harder on yourself than you do on your job’ -Jim Rohn” quote=”‘Work harder on yourself than you do on your job’ -Jim Rohn”]
Do you know why companies pay individuals differently? It’s because one person has more valuable skills to better the company which makes them worth the extra money. But what happens if you begin to think outside the box? For example, what’s the difference between the employee and the employer? There are many factors, but the most important one is their knowledge. One knows how to run a business and the other only knows how to operate a cash register.
By learning a higher skill set, you can completely change your life! You can earn more money and the more skills you learn, the more valuable you become.
So what’s stopping you from making learning a priority? Is it time? Money? Although I can relate, the hard truth is no excuses are acceptable. We all have 24 hours a day. If you really want to be successful, you must learn how to make the most out of your time. Think about it: 30 minutes a day set aside for mental growth is better than nothing.
Take time to visit your local library or spend some time on YouTube and Google finding answers to any questions you may have. Don’t let any more days go by without utilizing the great resources we have online to change and shape your future!
Some mornings I perform better than others. On the mornings I find myself running late, a good way to fit morning inspiration in is by playing it in my car. It’s 15 minutes I have to spend anyway, I might as well use it to better myself.
Can you think of any ways you can fit mental growth into your already busy schedule? Can you listen to videos or tapes while cleaning the house? During your workout? Also, there are great websites that allow you to listen to audio books at a subscription price. The possibilities are endless. You just have to find what works best for you.
Set Daily, Monthly, and Yearly Goals
Wealthy people will always have an answer when you ask them what their life goals are, whether it’s for today or the next 5 years. Life passes by way too fast and has to be managed. Although many successful people have goals, there are way more unsuccessful people that live life aimlessly without any set direction in their life. I don’t want you to wake up one day and feel like you’ve accomplished nothing in your life.
So ask yourself this question, “What do I want out of life?” What do you truly want? Take a minute and answer this question. Imagine yourself having whatever it is that you want. There’s power in this exercise so I want you to stop reading and really answer this question.
The next question is equally important, “How bad do you want it?” What are you willing to do in order to achieve your desires? What are you willing to sacrifice? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to reach your goals? Without this fire in your soul, a planner won’t help you because you won’t follow through. But if you are ready, I’ll share with you how making a plan can assist you in your plan to become wealthy.
By setting daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly goals, you’ll be writing your future on paper. You’re making it happen. Take some time and write small achievable goals that will inevitably lead you to massive success.
As you achieve these smaller goals, you’ll experience a great release of motivation. This will result in more achievements and soon enough, nothing will be able to stand in the way of you and your dreams.
Master The Art of Delaying Gratification
Q: What is delayed gratification?
A: Delayed gratification is putting off a great feeling right now in exchange for a greater feeling in the future.
For example, cleaning the house may not be fun, but the feeling of having a clean house later is worth the work.
Unfortunately, American society almost revolves around instant gratification. Don’t believe me? Households with the lowest net worth (zero or negative) hold an average of $10,308 in credit card debt. By going into debt and paying with credit, a person can buy an item they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford right now. By agreeing to pay a set amount of money over time, they end up using their income to pay bills that seem never-ending and keeps them trapped fighting a losing battle.
Can you believe that the average car payment is priced around $523 a month? Unless you’re 100% financially secure, such a large bill can cause too much financial stress. It’s simply not a wise decision especially since most older cars can be found with some reasonable prices. By practicing delayed gratification, the wealthy are willing and able to do the things that hurt now in order to obtain tremendous results later.
Wealthy people are constantly looking for ways to grow their income, and reduce decreasing it. By mastering the art of delaying gratification, they can grow their income much faster and then buy whatever they want; Instead of buying whatever they want at the moment and having less money later.

Have A Budget
Similar to the way goal setting makes the most of your time, a budget can make the most out of your finances. Yes, you can be in charge of your money instead of your money owning you!
A wealthy person manages their money in a way that it will serve them. How are you managing your money? Are you managing it at all? You’d be surprised how something as simple as a budget can transform your finances and put you on the right track!
I have a quick question for you: What would you do if someone accidentally broke your phone? How would you feel? How would you act? Are there any words you would say to them?
Even in the midst of reacting, you can still be proactive. You have the ability at any given time to decide what you will do, say, and how you will feel. Knowing this truth can set you free and help you become successful.
Let’s face it: life is hard, difficult, and unfair. However, instead of allowing things that happen to dictate your life, stay in charge. Accept and adapt. This is important in terms of successfulness because you don’t want life to knock you off your course of success. No matter what happens, make the decision to follow through on your dreams.
Not only do wealthy people accept and adapt, but they also prepare. Wealthy people are trained to look at potential returns and risks and do anything to minimize risks. The point is to make money and be fulfilled, not just make money. By learning how to push back against life, nothing will hold you back.
Since wealthy people manage their emotional state and are proactive, they’re naturally positive and enjoyable to be around. Although they’re aware of what can go wrong, they’re constantly looking for things that can go right and how they can use those things to their advantage.
Find A Mentor
There are many successful people in the world today. What if you could achieve the level of their results in a fraction of the time? You can! That’s the power of having a mentor. By finding someone who has the results you wish to achieve, you can learn all their secrets of how to get there (without committing all their mistakes.)
There are experts out there doing what you dream to do. Find them and copy them. Do what they do. Then, you’ll receive what they have.
Mirror Someone Who’s Successful
Another way we can say this is ‘find proven strategies.’ A strategy is a specific formula or recipe for success.
What would you do if you wanted to learn how to make Chicken Parmesan? More than likely, you’d head online and search for a recipe. Once you’ve found one that seems doable, you’d head to the kitchen and get to cooking. When using a recipe, you’re 100% sure your food will turn into Chicken Parmesan. Recipes (or strategies) are a great tool because you don’t have to be a master chef to use these simple tactics to reap delicious results.
By mirroring the actions of someone else who has the results you wish to obtain, you can be completely sure you’d gain the wonderful outcomes you desire!
Value Time Above All Other Assets
The most valuable money making tool anyone has is their time and wealthy people are aware of this. Although money is valuable, it’s also replaceable. Our time can never be replaced and once it’s gone, we can’t get it back. Knowing this, a successful person chases after an income that can’t be earned per hour.
Once a wealthy person learns, achieves, and masters one source of reliable income, they search for the next income opportunity. Creating products (or multiple products) allows them to continue to sell while they’re asleep. How would you like to earn money while you sleep?
When a person creates a variety of money machines, they now have time to utilize their time more efficiently. Because the truth is, a successful person isn’t just financially fit. They also have amazing relationships with people and an incredible sense of self-worth. By having multiple streams of income, they can become successful in every other area of life too.
Have you ever met someone who was completely financially successful and had a wonderful job, but worked too much to spend time with their family? In one sense, it’s great that they’re achieving so much. However, more important than work or money is family and that is one that should never be traded. Don’t fall into this trap. Get the necessary education to make money while you sleep.
Remain Focused On The Current Task
When you have many things to do, how do you handle it? Do you focus on one task at a time or try to do a little of each at once? Studies show that multitasking costs time and excellent results. Have you ever entered into a state of such incredible focus that things flowed together so easily? You did such a great job and left you wondering how you pulled it off.
When you use intense focus on one task, it allows you to accomplish a greater result in less time. By remaining present and doing the most now, you can achieve your goals faster and more accurately.
Don’t Allow Interruptions During Times of High Productivity
This wonderful state of focus can be easily distracted. Therefore, those who are aware of its power will eliminate all outside factors that won’t serve their purpose. They’ll lock themselves in a room, silence their cell phones, and even tell others they aren’t available at that hour.
Why does this trait make a successful person stand out?
Because most people allow their phone to interrupt them throughout the day without realizing that it’s stealing their time. For example, have you ever went to check something on Facebook and 30 minutes later you’ve forgotten what you went there for because you’re on your feed? It’s happened to me too many times to count!
When you feel your creative juices flowing, cut out any interruptions that may cause you to lose that spark.
Add Value To Others
Do you enjoy shopping? What kind of things do you usually buy? Are there things you buy more than others? Would you be willing to spend more money on something you absolutely need compared to a product that you simply want?
Of course you will! That’s why successful people are selling what you need.
What do I mean? People need all sorts of things including ideas, recipes, tips, tricks, hacks, you name it! It doesn’t have to be a real necessity like water, but there are people out there who really do need help. Remember I said successful people are constantly reading and learning? The chances are they’ll have the necessary wisdom to help someone overcome an obstacle at a price.
Once you realize that money naturally flows to you while you add value to other people, your entire life will change. People will pay for things that will ultimately better their lives. By taking the initiative and helping as many people as you can, the rewards you reap will be life changing!
Constantly Create Ideas
A successful person is an active thinker. While learning and reading, they’re constantly coming up with amazing new ideas that can help someone or can grow their business. You’ll notice a wealthy person usually has a journal of some sort to keep all their ideas in one place.
I once heard a story about a woman who has chalkboards in each room of her house. When inspiration strikes, she’ll stop what she’s doing and jot down her ideas.
Realistically, too many thoughts flow through our head every single day to remember them all. A person who is successful will keep their ideas organized. It won’t make them any money if it’s forgotten!
Have High Standards
Q: What do you mean by standards?
A: A person will have whatever they believe is absolutely necessary for their lives. For example, if a single mom’s standard is her children must eat, she will push herself to unbelievable limits to make sure that standard is met. On the other hand, if an employee’s standard is, “I don’t get paid to care. I’m only here for a paycheck,” then they may not have a job for long.
Our life right now is a direct reflection of our own personal standards. Some people have standards to work out five days a week and so they do. Others only have a standard to get through the day. Which person do you think will have more success in health?
A wealthy person has high standards. They’re not competing with others around them. Instead, they want to be better than their own best. Or maybe they want to be the best that ever lived. By raising their standard to that level, they will push themselves way harder than the person who just wants to survive.
Release and Attract Positive Energy
The morning is the most important time of day because it can set the tone for the rest of the day. Most successful people have very powerful morning routines. They prepare for their day and choose what their standards, actions, and emotions will be.
You can change how you feel by controlling or shifting your mindset. By learning to master this tool, successful people can enjoy their days and attract more positive energy by releasing it.
Studies show that the way you talk to yourself is the most important communication you can ever learn. So my question is: what are you saying about and to yourself? When we create a belief about who we are, we will always find a way to stick to that story. If your story is, “I’ve always been this way, it’ll never change no matter what I do,” then there will be no reason to even try.
However, if your story is, “No matter what life throws at me, I will always overcome,” then you’ll achieve massively different results than the other person.
Successful people purposely spend time determining who they are and what their purpose is. When you have a strong enough ‘why’, you’ll be willing to push through a lot more than you ever imagined possible.
Eat Healthy And Exercise
Q: Do wealthy people really eat healthily and exercise?
A: Those who are wealthy and successful, yes. This is because the human body cannot function at its very best when we don’t take care of it. By providing the body with proper nutrients, it can serve us so much better and allow us to make greater returns on our investments.
Healthy, God made food fills us up with energy and allows us to feel light and clear-headed. But man-made, factory pumped junk steals our health and makes us feel sluggish and yucky. A top performer can’t live that way!
Another great way to fill up on energy is exercise. It prepares your body for the day and gets the blood flowing.
Maintain Good Hygiene
No matter how much people try to deny this, humans make lasting first impressions when they encounter one another. In order to attract other people to your business or your life, it’s crucial to practice good hygiene. No one (I don’t care who you are) likes to be around a smelly, dirty person.
By showering regularly and keeping up with their appearance, successful people are approachable and enjoyable.
Wake Up Early
[click_to_tweet tweet=”If you’re going to be successful you’ve gotta be willing to give up sleep.’ -Eric Thomas” quote=”If you’re going to be successful you’ve gotta be willing to give up sleep.’ -Eric Thomas”]
Have you ever woke up before the sun to chase your dreams? If not, I suggest you try it. Many people stay up late and work on projects. This can be effective, but at the end of the day, you’re already worn out from all the other tasks you’ve had to endure.
Waking up early allows you to take advantage of a clear, rested mind. You’d be surprised by all the great ideas you’ll come up with by waking up early. Many successful people use this habit because it’s utilizing time that would’ve been slept away.
When everyone else is sleeping, you can tap into that power of focus and achieve your desires faster than ever before.
No Fear In Saying No
Once you’re a successful person, you’ll realize exactly how important it is to be honest and filled with integrity. This means that when you receive an invitation you’re not interested in, you tell the person immediately that you won’t be attending.
Many people are afraid of hurting other’s feelings and feel forced into doing things for others out of obligation. But wealthy people are way to busy to waste any time on games like that. If it’s something they cannot partake in, they let it be known right away.
The activities, values, and habits of successful people differ from those of poor people. These include:
- Reading consistently
- Learning constantly
- Setting goals and overachieving them
- Mastering to delay gratification
- Using a budget
- Being proactive
- Imitating successful people
- Finding a mentor
- Valuing their time above all
- Shutting the door on distractions during a peak state
- Adding value to others
- Always creating ideas
- Setting high standards
- Operating in positivity
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
- Getting up early
- Putting their needs before the wants of others
Which one of these habits of successful people will you implement immediately? I can’t wait to hear about your success!
