Reasons To Quit Soda Today

Soda was a normal thing in our household. I was raised to love it and we drank it every day. I didn’t make the decision to quit soda until in my twenties. It’s normal to drink soda regularly, isn’t it?

The only issue with soda is it’s incredibly unhealthy for you. (Like WAYY unhealthy!) It leads to many of the health problems we see in our culture today. The darn things are everywhere! You can go anywhere and order a Coke. The drink is also highly addictive. These companies know exactly what they’re doing to push revenues through the roof by ensuring you’ll purchase more in the future. After learning the health effects of consuming this soft drink, I chose to stand up and say, “No more!”

It was incredibly tough for me to stop drinking soda. The more I tried to stop, the more I wanted it. I was caught up in an addiction that I was determined to win. After failing multiple times, my victory finally prevailed. At last, I can say I’m free from carbonated drinks and I’m glad for it. However, many people give me weird looks when I politely decline soda. It makes me feel like an outcast.

Why should you quit soda?

I know normal people drink soda, but I’m weird okay? I want to take care of my body and live as long as I can. Let’s examine some reasons why soda is so bad for the human body. (And why you should stay far away from it!)

1. Soda leads to diabetes

Just one cup a day increases your chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 80%! It’s loaded with sugar. Most soft drinks contain 30 grams or more of sugar. (4 grams = 1 teaspoon) There’s certainly no need to consume that much sugar. Your body does not need that amount to function. In fact, that much sugar can cause the jitters in adults. Imagine how much more it affects a child’s system. Buyer beware!

2. Soda can cause dementia or Alzheimer’s.

This horrible disease is now considered Type 3 Diabetes. A large amount of sugar consumption inflames the hippocampus in the brain, leading to memory loss. A brain infected with dementia is a brain on fire- literally! My grandfather suffered from this disease before he passed, so this angers me to a large extent. It’s not only damaging to ourselves but our loved ones also. I refuse to remain quiet and will share the truth with whoever will listen.


Also, if Type 3 Diabetes is not yet full-blown, the effects can be reversed by removing sugar and eating a healthy nutritious diet.

3. Soda can cause cancer.

There’s a substance in dark-colored sodas that is considered a carcinogenic. It’s called caramel color and you’d be surprised at how many regular foods it’s in. There are people who believe cancer will never occur to them, but the cell-consuming disease can present itself to anyone. If I have any say of what comes my way in the future, I want to be sure I’m inviting health, growth, and prosperity. Death, disease, and sicknesses are not welcome here.

4. High Fructose Corn Syrup.

High fructose corn syrup is super inexpensive to create and adds a great taste to foods and beverages. The only problem is: it’s extremely toxic and dangerous to the human body. Nearly all sodas and juices contain this substance (along with other foods). If you see this on the label, put it down and run as far as you can in the other direction. Think poison!

5. Soda has ZERO nutritional value.

Not only is this soft drink dangerous, but there’s no reason for it to be in the human system. It doesn’t offer anything positive to our body. Soda does not love us back. If you want something that will make you feel great, strong, and healthy, this product is not for you.

6. Soda impairs bone strength.

The phosphoric acid found in sodas decreases the body’s ability to consume calcium correctly. Calcium is needed for bone strength. When not enough calcium is absorbed, it can lead to osteoporosis, brittleness, and tooth decay. I don’t want to subject myself to any injuries that could have been avoided by something as simple as avoiding a drink. I know way too many people with bone problems. No thank you!

7. Soda causes kidney stones.

Really, it’s the phosphoric acid we just discussed that is the real culprit. However, almost all sodas contain this ingredient. Kidney stones are overwhelmingly painful and can vary in size. Some can be big enough to require surgery! I’m lucky enough to have never experienced one of these, but if you know anyone who has just ask them. It’s no joke.

8. Soda leads to heart disease.

Consuming one small 12 fluid ounce soda a day increases your risk for a heart attack by 20%! Two or more a day puts this number at 30% or above. It also creates the outcome of a heart disease-related death possible. 1 in 2 people who consume two or more drinks daily dies from this.

Growing up, I had no idea soda was so bad for you. When I realized that my body is the only vehicle I have for this journey called life, I began to do research on it. I want to enjoy life as I age. I refuse to allow a drink to steal me away from the ones I love the most. That’s why I quit soda.

Please be encouraged to do your own research on it. Don’t just take my word for it. If you’re struggling with a soda addiction, the truth of its negative effects may be enough to set you free. I know that if I can do you, so can you.
