Patience

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

-Colossians 3:12 NIV

Patience is lacking in our world today. People are so quick to get mad and curse someone out if they did an action they didn’t agree with. I saw a video of this lady yelling at McDonald’s team members because they were out of cookies. It was extremely sad because humans are not perfect (and as someone who used to work in fast food, things run out from time to time). Under the video, the comment section was filled with people who were rooting her on. They were saying things like, “I know that’s right!” and “That will teach them.”

Especially in a work situation, people are usually trying their best with what they are given. I remember one night of work, there was a limited supply of chicken (due to a lack of management). I was the shift leader that night and countless people spoke very nasty to me. It wasn’t my fault! I was doing the best I had with the little that remained. The few people who were still sweet to me refreshed my inner man. That was a HORRIBLE night of work!

Because of that job I had, I grew A LOT in patience. It takes a great amount to agitate me. But even I have my moments where I feel like I’m gonna lose it. That’s because we aren’t meant to deal with situations in our own strength. When we’re connected to the Holy Spirit, we have the ability to wait like He does. Try these things next time you’re in a trying circumstance.

Peace

“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”

-Colossians 3:15 NLT

The world would be such a better place if we all lived at peace with one another. Could you imagine? It’d be like the movies where all the neighbors get along and know each other by name. People would share with others and love would spread. We’d have more friends than enemies and I believe the world itself would be a brighter place.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is our world is not currently in that state. Certain neighborhoods are cluttered with crime and hatred. I don’t understand what causes someone to murder a person. Now a days, there’s articles of parents killing their own child. If a person could do that to their own offspring, what would they be willing to do to a random human in their way?

Although we can’t change the entire world, we can start with the person in the mirror. The Bible teaches us to be the light of this world. Let’s learn how to become part of the solution. Read more

Love

“Owe no man anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

-Romans 13:8

Love is the most important thing to me in my walk with God. And to be honest, I’m not that great with it. I do a good job at times, but I’ve realized that if I don’t constantly keep the importance of this in my face, it’ll slip away from me. It depends on our personality. Some people were born with the gift of love. Me? Not so much. So I’ll show you what I do to get into my ‘love state’.

Study the Scriptures

This step is crucial. We must be in our Word if we want to change our ways. For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Don’t you know the song? “There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain.” It’s true. The quickest way to see results is to spend time examining the character of God and the ministry of Jesus.

There are a whole lot of scriptures that express God’s love for us. The scriptures say He chose you before the foundations of the world that you would be holy and blameless before Him in love (see Ephesians 1:4). Because of His great love for you, He made you alive to Christ even while you were dead in your trespasses (see Ephesian 2:4-5). You’re the apple of His eye and He has your name tattooed on the palm of His hand. Read more
